Managing Disk Usage

If you wish to get more information about your disk utilization, click the Disk Space Usage button. Otherwise, you may check your total disk space consumption in the cPanel statistics window.

The Disk Space Utilization section divides the usage into different areas, allowing you to easily manage your space. In the webspace, you can look into individual folders.

Reasons for Increased Disk Usage

There are several reasons that are usually blamed when it comes to suddenly increased disk space usage. The following are some of them:

E-mails — E-mails are included in the account usage. You have a default e-mail address on all of your messages that are stored on a server if you receive a lot of spam; this can take up disk space on your account. You should also keep in mind that e-mails in your Trash folder take up disk space. If you have a lot of e-mails in the Trash folder, make sure to empty it so you can get the space you need.

Website Error Logs - Website error logs are usually file with the name error log that are created as a result of a website PHP error. If logging is enabled, details of the reason for the issue will be included in the log, otherwise, you can stop logging in the PHP options by going to PHP Selector.

Cache Files — The software can produce cache files. These cache files should, in theory, be deleted, but they aren't always. Cache files should also be deleted on a regular basis because they can take up a lot of space unnecessarily.

Backups of Software Websites - Software website backups are backups created by your software, such as WordPress, and are usually configured through a plugin. We back up your entire cPanel account on a regular basis, so there's no need to do this. If you want to take your own backups, we recommend storing them somewhere else.

Log Files - Log files are useful in that they allow you to monitor the activities of your hosting while you're away, but there's no purpose for them to stay on the server. You can clear up disk space by uninstalling the log files from your server after you've read and downloaded the disk files.

Unused installation - Unused and obsolete installations might also contribute to excessive disk utilization. It's pointless to keep these files on a server. Make sure you delete these files because they don't serve any purpose for your website and just take up space on your hard drive.

Once you've identified the source of the increased disk utilization and cleared it, you can use the cPanel FTP or File Manager. If e-mails are the source of the problem, you should clean it up with Mail Client or Webmail.
